Flare vs. Skinny

15 Sep

The flare jean is back!  After a long few years of skinny jeans, NY fashion week last spring showcased the flare jean for a Fall 2011 look.  After models tore up the look on the runway, celebs have been seen wearing the 70’s chic pant on the streets.  Just look at Gwyneth Paltrow, Gisele Bündchen and Zoë Saldana:

I’ve been a huge fan of skinny jeans because they allow you to show off your boots–one of my all time favorite looks is a skinny jean with a classic leather riding boot–but I have to admit I’m a little excited the flare jean is making a come back.  Flare jeans are pretty flattering, especially in a darker wash.  By adding a heel under your flare, you can make your legs appear longer, thus looking a bit slimmer which is always a plus!  You can be pretty flexible in what top you pair with flare jeans–as you can see above the look can be completed with a blazer, casual shirt, or tucked in oxford and look great all ways. The style is back and I think adding a pair of flares to your wardrobe is a must for this fall!

Well if you want to look exactly like Gisele, I would check out True Religion, as she has been the face (or butt) of the brand for years. They’re a really good quality jean, I have a few pairs myself! If you’re looking for a more reasonably priced flare, Express has a lot of flares in different washes, and they have a buy one get one pair of jeans 1/2 off going on right now!

I agree with Emily’s comment! If flared jeans looked like that on me, I would definitely have more than one pair in my wardrobe:)

I always wear skinny jeans even though I look nothing like her…hopefully that’s not a huge fashion catastrophe!

i have over 70 pairs of jeans…flared..bootleg..skinny..stovepipe..vintage..patched..laced up..sequins..i am about 5’4″ tall 119-121 pounds..it really depends on my mood..where i am going..the boots i am wearing or the platforms which really look great with bootleg/flared jeans.. i am thin and i have slim hips..long legs.. i am seeing skinny jeggings..leggings on people who should NOT be wearing them!! chubby..fat..short really look better in straight legs and wider leg jeans.. wearing over the knee boots..tight and slim especially with a tunic..wearing a platform boot? flares/bootlegs with a shorter top or sweater..it is also a matter of proportion!! i do not wear flats so i don’t really care for boyfriend jeans..one thing i sadly do notice..gals who see very very thin tallish models and really think they will look like the model in the picture!! if you are petite which i do not consider myself, then you should go with petite proportion legged jeans..really tall and thin can wear almost any type!! ps i buy jeans for $5.00 which look as good as the $100.00 types!! sorry to say this but if you are short/chubby or have a less than svelte figure you could buy $1000.00 jeans…and still look awful!!..and remember darker denim does look better than very light or whiskering which really does nothing–for anyone!! worst jeans i ever bought?? victoria secret and newport news..some of the best?? sears..kohls..boscovs..metrostyle..macys!!..and vintage on ebay!!!

You’ve made some really good points there. I checked on the net for more information about the issue and found most individuals will go along with your views on this site.
